2/7/14 - day 11 of green drink

No real noticeable difference in Mom - although most of the time she does seem more present in the present.  Tonight she asked me to cut her nails and told me that she would file them from now on and wrote it on the calender to remind herself.  this is a big difference.   In the past she will ask me to cut her nails and be really pitiful about it and if I suggest that she should file them every few days she will agree but not with any confidence.  Much more confidence this time around.  So I guess that is a difference.

She is still getting around well - sometimes forgets to take the cane with her which is great.  She does not want to use it as a crutch that she doesn't need to be cut.

she is eating well and when I am not here for lunch then she will make herself chicken nuggets in the toaster oven - setting the temperature herself.  I love that small self sufficiency and she seems to enjoy that she can eat what she likes when I am not here.

Another difference - more and more she is choosing to watch movies instead of a steady diet of Matlock and Murder She Wrote - and sometimes she used to watch the same episode over and over and over usually without even realizing it.

I am thinking that Mom's hair looks a little thicker =- same with mine which would be one awesome plus!!!

zOk - beef and barley soup again tonight - yesterday afternoon I asked her if she wanted me to make a frittata or beef and barley soup.  She was very confident in saying beef and barley soup which is also unusual - normally is it - oh whatever you like...

She gets cold around 4pm or so every day - and sometimes so do I.  Not quite sure what that means but thought I would mention it.

2/1/14 Green drink day 4

I take care of my Mom.  At 87 plus she is doing great.
She is less agile - but still walks and can take care of her personal needs.  Kegel exercises for decades means no diapers!! Yeah for her and for me as the caretaker

Mom's memory has been badly impaired for the last year or two and gotten worse.  it is not the dreaded Altzheimers - her memory is just lacking all over - distant past, past, recent, present.

I tried liquid vitamins and B complex to increase her nutrition intake but it messed up her metabolism and icnreased her confusion etc.  As these are not in nature's proportions it just messed with her mind.

I am now trying a green drink that is dehydrated plants.  We took it for about 12 days or so and it seemed to stabilize her somewhat - she seemed more oriented and able to focus.  I did not reorder soon enough so we have had a lapse of about 10 days.

Today is day 4 since the new order arrived.  Today for the first time she started talking about my stepfather and  the fact that he could speak many languages.  This is a new memory for her and ti came out naturally in the course of conversation.  So I started a blog to track how the green drink works.

In the normal course of things she does not remember much about her past - just a few basics that she repeats over and over and does not remember much else.  I talk to her every morning about my childhood, her early experiences hoping to get her brain to hook back up.  We shall see what this high nutrient green drink will do for her.

My friend Carole came for breakfast today and then she and I left for a meeting.  We left at 10am and I got home around 1pm or so.  Mum was dressed in pants and sweater instead of wearing her blue house coat that she wears every day. - and I had not said anything to her about dressing as if I do she normallly complains that she is more comfortable this way and it is easier to go to the bathroom.   She walked to the mailbox with me for the first time in a long time.

So we shall see how this goes.  I started the blog so I can see the changes in her as we continue to take the green drink.  I already have her on a mostly organic diet - we drink springwater.  She takes vitamin E, Vitamin D, evening primrose oil, coq 10 and probiotics every day.  She uses Stevia as a sweetener and does not eat anything with sugar substitutes of any kind only things that have stevia or sugar.  She is an insulin dependent diabetic and takes medication for high blood pressure.  she uses papaya pills for indegestion most of the time.  She walks a lot in the house and picks up dirt from the carpets all day long - she can still put on her own socks.  I cut her finger nails and toe nails as she is afraid of cutting herself.

Ok well that is it for our first blog.
